“I’ve already killed one of you,” Safran says, masking her fury with defiance. “Wanna make it two?”
The Wyvern reveals his own blue blade, withdrawing it from the depths of his cloak with a flick of his wrist. Unlike Vitalian dueling blades or broadswords, this one curves backward to a hooked tip. Safran grips her blade more tightly, determined not to show her fear.
“We’ve been waiting for you, child,” the creature says, his voice calm and unhurried. “She’s been waiting.”
She?
Before Safran can demand to know what he means, the door behind Wyvern breaks down. Tarrol and two of his Protectors storm through, swords at the ready, as two more Protectors swing through windows above in a shower of shattering glass. Behind Safran, the cultists emerge from the boxy corridors just as the Protectors aim their own long-nosed pistols. In a burst of sound and smoke, two cultists keel over as another returns fire, his own shot narrowly missing a Protector’s head.
The Wyvern dashes to the side, returning his sword to his cloak as he vanishes into the shadows. Before he disappears, the hint of a grin impresses itself on Safran’s mind. The Wyvern was expecting this to happen. He was waiting for Safran to arrive, and the wrench he’d thrown into her thoughts sends anxiety scurrying through her veins.
Who is she?
It’s time, y’all. Safran’s story continues in Threads of Light, and I want YOU to be a part of it. ARC applications are now open until February 2nd!

Writing Updates
TAMELANDS // The draft has begun! This is my first cozy fantasy, so I’m hoping my 27,000-word outline will carry me to the finish line. It’s a Legends and Lattes x Fantastic Beasts story with a protagonist in (gasp) his forties. My goal is to finish drafting by the end of April and spend the rest of the year writing SPOOKY FINALE, the fourth book in Safran’s series. The opening sentence:
“Shepherd Skye wiped the dirt from his boots before walking into the trap.”
SPOOKY THE THIRD // While FINALE waits in the drafting queue, SPOOKY THE THIRD is about to travel! I’m sending this book to my editor in February for a developmental makeover. I’m simultaneously thrilled about the story and ready for my editor to tear my plots and characters to shreds.
And Kickstarter prep may have already started….
