No time for a hook—here are five reasons you should get books on Kickstarter.
1) Your favorite authors are already there.
Brandon Sanderson, Matt Dinniman, Joe Abercrombie, Julia Quinn, Christopher Paolini—so many well-known authors across the fantasy, sci-fi, and romance spaces have run massively successful campaigns.
Not to mention that even “small” authors can make a big impact and fund incredible stories without going through a traditional publishing house.
2) You can read books before they release.
Most Kickstarter campaigns send books to backers before they release to the public.
3) You can get special editions & exclusive content.
Love artwork and swag? Get them here.
Love exclusive chapters? Get them here.
Love pretty books? Kickstarter has the prettiest.
Because this platform lets authors create whatever kinds of books they want.
4) You can get books for as little as $1.
If you’re wary about dropping your dough on special editions from an author you don’t know, many authors put previous books on sale to bring in more backers.
In other words: you can dig into their work without digging into your wallet.
5) 90–92% of the fees go directly to the author.
No dubious mega-corporations needed: instead of taking up to 70% of a book’s proceeds like certain unnamed Amazon.coms, Kickstarter takes between 8–10% of the funds raised.
I’m so thrilled to have found this platform—which is why my third campaign is launching in just three weeks.

NC readers, a bit of sad news: Folk & Fable is temporarily closed, which means I won’t be signing there this weekend. But I will be at MonkeyKat Books next Saturday, April 25 from 4–6 pm! I hope to see you there.
