Every child knows the tale of the soggy middleman.

Laden with promise, flush with monopoly, he stretches his overinflated fingers through every window of every home. He speaks through the televisions, the phones, even through devices of his own design. Eyeless, he smiles. His tendrils seep into inboxes across the land, making oaths he cannot possibly fulfill. His hands drip with pride.

Books have fallen under the shadow of his domain. He claims every title and churns them out for the world’s consumption. He feeds them that they may feed him in return.

Most of the world’s great vendors have been melded to his purpose. His message to the stragglers is clear: capitulate or die.

But some choose to resist…

I’m not saying Amazon is an evil corporation bent on eliminating all commercial competition.

I’m not not saying that.

Instead, I’m saying that if you want to support authors and other creators—without filling the pockets of technocrats—there’s a better path.

Kickstarter is a really cool platform for many reasons, but here’s the biggest one: it brings creators and supporters together in a way that lets creators bring crazy awesome projects to life and supporters enjoy the fruit of those labors in a meaningful way.

For example, I’m bringing my heist fantasy limited editions back to Kickstarter in May.

Because of Kickstarter, I can make fun books with fancy paper, ribbon bookmarks, exclusive illustrations, and coded annotations with secret messages from readers.

I haven’t run a Kickstarter campaign in 18 months—mainly because being a dad is no joke.

But we’re back in only 25 days…

And if we can get to 100 followers on the Kickstarter campaign this week, I’ll reveal the final cover art for Stories That Bleed.

I promise it slaps.

If you want a taste of this series beforehand, you’re obviously welcome to purchase the first two books on Amazon or your favorite vendor! But if you’re local to NC, I have not one but two events coming up at Folk & Fable (Cary) and MonkeyKat Books (Sanford). Stay tuned for the sweet deets.
