When I tell you I about jumped out of my skin…
I’m querying a cozy fantasy manuscript right now.
If you have no idea what that means, here’s the five-step explainer:
Author writes book.
Author asks literary agent to read the book.
Agent likes the book.
???
Profit!
(Jokes aside, I’ll talk about the ??? another time. Hopefully soon.)
I’ve received a couple of rejections from agents so far, e.g.:
“Hey Addison, thanks for baring your soul to me, but I’m gonna pass.”
Agents have a million reasons to pass on representing your book—and many of them aren’t about you.
The math says most authors never get representation.
Which is why this message took me by surprise:

If the image doesn’t load, here’s what it says: Addison, Thank you so much for submitting SHEPHERD SKYE! I'd love to keep reading. If you can please send over a PDF of the first 50 pages plus the synopsis (in one document), that would be fantastic. Excited to see a bit more!
Have I checked my email eighty times per day for the last five days?
But my writing has improved so much since baby Addison queried his first manuscript back in 2022.
Affirmations like this keep me dreaming and drafting.
That’s why I’m over 30,000 words into Project Spooky Finale, the fourth book of the Vitalian Chronicles.
And that’s why I’m so excited to share the third book, Stories That Bleed, with all of you lovely readers.
If we can reach 100 followers on the Kickstarter campaign, I’ll reveal the cover.
And it’s a frickin’ good cover.
Addison
