Sonnet? On it.

I’m fresh out of narrative prose this week. How ‘bout a Shakespearean sonnet?

When infant cries do break through night’s relief
And cast a pall on dreams of dreams’ return,
The hour beckons, and—as would a thief—
I steal away, for milk the child doth yearn.

From yonder fridge I take his sustenance,
Prepared just how the fledgling babe desires.
And as he wakes, I soothe his countenance
With nourishment to which he doth aspire.

When pangs of hunger have been satisfied
And heavy eyes return the babe to rest,
In rashness I claim victory with pride
And send my vanquished foe back to his nest.

Until he deigns to throw up on my shirt
And I recall that he should have been burp’t.

Writing Updates

SPOOKY SEQUEL // I’m so excited to share something besides “I’m writing and/or editing.”

First, beta readers have been selected—check your inbox for the details if you applied! The beta read begins next month; until then, I’m knocking out these dev edits.

Second, I commissioned a brand-new world map from Alyssa Hurlbert. The first draft came in this week, and it’s excellent. Along with some very special artwork that’s in progress now, this map will breathe new life into the next installment of Safran’s journey.

SPOOKY THREEQUEL // It is done.

At 97,395 words, this is the shortest draft in the Vitalian Chronicles to date. It’s also the most devastating. For those of you who’ve read Marrow and Soul…well, no spoilers, but you may need some reinforced Tupperware to hold all of these extra emotions. I know I do.

And if you think you know what’s going to happen…I promise you don’t.

So what now?

Revise SPOOKY SEQUEL. First-pass edit for SPOOKY THREEQUEL. Somewhere down the line, start drafting VESPER. (You thought I’d forgotten about VESPER? Wait—you forgot about VESPER? Shoot.)

And somewhere in there…I start outlining BOOK 4 OF THE VITALIAN CHRONICLES.

What should the codename for Book 4 be? Respond to this email with your best and/or worst suggestions!

See ya,

Addison
