Remember BuzzFeed quizzes?
The ones that would tell you which animal you were based on your McDonald’s order and your favorite season of Gossip Girl? (I may be editorializing.)
If I took one of those quizzes, I would be an indoor cat.
Occasionally playful. Enjoys lounging on the couch. Always lands on his feet somehow after flailing around a bit.
But entering my 30’s (gasp), thinking about my long-term health (groan), and establishing a healthy lifestyle for my son (awwww) have solidified a core belief:
Natural light is the best light.
Outside my office window are pink flowers I can’t name, sprouting on a bush under a gorgeous (if unnecessarily toasty) Tar Heel-blue sky with puffy white storybook clouds.
My office light is off, as are the rest of the lights in the house.
Our dog is snoozing, much like the indoor cat I aspire to embody.
If not for the washing machine monologuing its way through a load of towels down the hall, this would be a perfect moment.
I get to live out my sheltered feline nature while still enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
If this were a different newsletter, I’d encourage you to go out and smell the flowers.
But as a former Floridian who wants his air conditioning as cool as he feels after a haircut, I would just suggest opening the blinds.
Let the natural light in. Crash on the couch with a good book.
