My wife laid out her Valentine’s expectations ten days after we met.
We were fresh-faced interns living on the campus of a broadcasting company (long story)…
And I’d been crushing on Charis since day one.
If you’re wondering whether college-aged Addison was woolly-headed enough to talk Valentine’s Day plans with this fiercely intelligent and independent woman, stop wondering—I definitely was.
But I didn’t bring it up.
My mom did.
She’d struck up a conversation with Charis, and they bonded because they were both born on holidays.
Charis’s birthday falls on Valentine’s Day, and if you know anyone with a holiday birthday, you know it can either be incredible or incredibly annoying.
So she’d established a precedent for her future husband:
Her birthday and Valentine’s Day are separate occasions.
When she mentioned this to my mom, I filed it under Stuff That May Be Helpful to Know in the Future, right next to “learning to drive stick” and “discovering why people like Kid Rock.”
That brain folder is stuffed with doomed trivia—but a decade later, we’re still celebrating double.
As we take this weekend to honor two momentous occasions, I have a special request:
As soon as we pass 100 followers, we’ll reveal the cover right here in the newsletter.
And, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I think you’ll be smitten.
Thanks
Addison
